Treatment | Used To Treat Breast Cancer |
Form | Capsules |
Palbociclib capsules are a medication primarily used in the treatment of certain types of breast cancer. It is typically prescribed in combination with other medications, such as hormone therapy, for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Palbociclib works by inhibiting specific enzymes called cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) 4 and 6, which play a crucial role in cell division and proliferation. By targeting these enzymes, palbociclib helps to slow down or halt the growth of cancer cells.
Composition:
Each capsule of palbociclib contains 100 mg of the active ingredient palbociclib. Along with the active ingredient, palbociclib capsules also contain inactive ingredients such as lactose monohydrate, crospovidone, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and others.
Side Effects:
While palbociclib is an effective medication for treating breast cancer, it can also cause certain side effects. It's essential to discuss potential side effects with your healthcare provider before starting treatment. Some common side effects of palbociclib may include:
Neutropenia: Palbociclib can cause a decrease in the number of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, in the body. Neutropenia can increase the risk of infections, so it's essential to monitor blood counts regularly during treatment.
Fatigue: Feeling tired or weak is a common side effect of palbociclib. It's important to get plenty of rest and to let your healthcare provider know if you experience severe fatigue.
Nausea and vomiting: Some individuals may experience nausea and vomiting while taking palbociclib. These symptoms can often be managed with medications prescribed by your doctor.
Diarrhea: Diarrhea is another possible side effect of palbociclib. It's crucial to stay hydrated and to inform your healthcare provider if diarrhea becomes severe or persistent.
Hair thinning or hair loss: Palbociclib may cause thinning of the hair or hair loss, although this side effect is usually temporary.
Decreased appetite: Some individuals may experience a decreased appetite while taking palbociclib. It's essential to maintain proper nutrition during cancer treatment, so speak with your healthcare provider if you have concerns about your appetite.
Mouth sores: Palbociclib may cause mouth sores or oral mucositis in some individuals. Maintaining good oral hygiene and using mouthwashes recommended by your healthcare provider can help alleviate this side effect.
Liver enzyme abnormalities: Palbociclib can sometimes cause abnormalities in liver function tests, which will be monitored by your healthcare provider through regular blood tests.
Potential for fetal harm: Palbociclib can cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant individuals. It's essential to use effective contraception during treatment and to avoid becoming pregnant.
Other side effects: Other less common side effects of palbociclib may include fever, headache, dizziness, and respiratory infections. If you experience any concerning symptoms while taking palbociclib, be sure to contact your healthcare provider.
It's important to note that not everyone will experience these side effects, and some individuals may experience different or additional side effects not listed here. Always consult your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment with palbociclib.

Usage of Lomustine Capsules (40 mg):
Composition: Lomustine, also known by its brand name CCNU, is an alkylating agent belonging to the nitrosourea class of chemotherapy drugs. Each capsule of Lomustine contains 40 mg of the active ingredient lomustine, along with various inert ingredients for capsule formulation.
Usage: Lomustine capsules are prescribed primarily for the treatment of certain types of cancer, including brain tumors (such as glioblastoma multiforme), Hodgkin's lymphoma, and certain types of lung cancer. It works by interfering with the DNA synthesis process of cancer cells, ultimately leading to their destruction.
Dosage: The dosage of Lomustine depends on various factors such as the type and severity of cancer being treated, the patient's overall health condition, and response to previous treatments. It is usually taken orally as directed by a healthcare professional, typically once every 6 weeks. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual patient factors.
Side Effects: While Lomustine can be effective in treating cancer, it may also cause certain side effects. It's important to note that not all individuals will experience these side effects, and their severity can vary from person to person. Common side effects of Lomustine include:
Nausea and Vomiting: These are among the most common side effects associated with Lomustine treatment. Your healthcare provider may prescribe medications to help alleviate these symptoms.
Bone Marrow Suppression: Lomustine can suppress bone marrow function, leading to decreased production of blood cells. This may result in anemia (low red blood cell count), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), and leukopenia (low white blood cell count). Patients may experience fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections, and easy bruising or bleeding.
Hair Loss: Some individuals may experience temporary hair loss or thinning while undergoing treatment with Lomustine. Hair usually grows back once treatment is completed.
Liver Toxicity: Lomustine may cause liver toxicity, which can manifest as elevated liver enzymes in blood tests. Symptoms of liver toxicity may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), abdominal pain, and dark urine.
Pulmonary Toxicity: In rare cases, Lomustine may cause lung problems such as interstitial pneumonitis or pulmonary fibrosis, which can lead to cough, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing.
Renal Toxicity: Lomustine can also affect kidney function, potentially causing kidney damage or impairment. Symptoms of renal toxicity may include changes in urination patterns, swelling in the legs or feet, and fluid retention.

It is also indicated for use in transfusion-dependent anemia due to low-or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) associated with a deletion 5q abnormality with or without additional cytogenetic abnormalities and for the treatment of Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) whose disease has relapsed or progressed after two prior therapies, one of which included bortezomib.
Lenalidomide as available has hard capsules in the strengths of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg and 25 mg capsules for oral administration. Each capsule contains lenalidomide as the active ingredient.
